Sample Post 7 ::: Free post ::: Our environment

Do we have time?

This is 2018 and I can’t believe how people are not yet aware of the importance of taking care of the planet we live in. I think people should definitely learn about “green issues” at school. Sometimes children learn how to make recycled paper and have workshops to learn some aspects of recycling but that should be part of the curriculum everywhere. So, environmental-friendly practices can and should be learnt at school -and also at home. We can learn simple things to help our environment because until there's no mission saying we can live in Mars, we need to do something about the Earth.

I’ve always tried to be careful with the waste I produce. I use special bins (usually glass, plastic and organic bins) every time I can. Apart from that, I use water wisely; I learnt that in Chiloé when I was 12. It was only when we spent more than 2 weeks with a family in Nalhuitad, where they didn’t have tap water. I’m constantly thinking about ways to reduce my carbon footprint and transmitting the information so more people are aware.
I use my bike in the summer mostly. In winter it’s too cold and too contaminated as well but as in spring and summer is windier I tent to think that I’m not breathing so much smog. Also, as I don’t have a car, I’m always walking and taking the bus or the tube.

I think we should support any eco-organisations if it’s because they want to take care of the planet. I’d love to make tons of copies of “The 11th Hour”, which is a documentary about the state of the Earth, considering air and water contamination mainly. Finally, in terms of the capital city, I think Santiago is missing more laws and public policies so people learn and participate more in solving matters related to the environment.

Blog Session 5 ::: Sample Post

"Without music, life would be a mistake" F. Nitezsche

I'm going to write about Brazilian music and how much I love the music coming from that country. There's a singer I like, who I first listened to because of the film "Fast & Furious 5", which is not the kind of films I like but as it has Brazil as a setting, I watched part of it and just by coincidence the part where this song appears.

This singer is called Obando D2 and the name of the song is "Dasafabo deixa eu dizer", which literally means "Relief let me tell you", or something like that... I know very little about this singer but I think he's been singing for a long time because he has more than one hundred songs. He's in hip-hop and he's one of many singers who rap about the situation in Brazil, about poverty and crime in the favelas. Just like Os Paralamas do Suceso and other bands have also sung to protest as well as the many documentaries about their reality.

I like this song because of the lyrics, where he talks about what is to live in a favela and how he'd like Brazil to be. I'm interested in Brazilian culture, specially because I practice capoeira and I hope I can continue practicing it. With the different teachers we had and friends from there, who now live in Chile, (plus one or two boyfriends, I've learn't a great deal about the way Brazilians are... and they are a lot. The current population estimate for 2018 es 210.87 million.

Here you have the first song I mentioned:

I can't help including Antonio Carlos Jobim, the greatest bossa nova singer ever...

Sample Post 4 ::: Postgraduate Studies

Postgraduate Studies

As I have two jobs, it's difficult to choose a topic to continue studying. But I'll try so if it's something about the English language and teaching, I'd love to study Neurolinguistics. I really enjoy anything about the brain and the way it works when we learn something like languages.
In terms of Tourism, I'd love to study more languages! So we could offer our tours in other languages different from Spanish, English, Portuguese and Chilean sign language. In the meantime, I watch videos and tutorials and keep practicing studying what I know so far about the languages I can speak.

More than postgraduate studies, I believe in Continuing Education. I prefer a diploma more than a Postgraduate programme because they're shorter and more specific. You can find some diplomas or training programmes with really good teachers who don't teach in universities, where you usually study a postgraduate programme.

I dream about the country having educational programs for everybody. For example, people could go to the Municipalidad and register in a 3 or 6 months long training program. People having access to education is the best policy ever and in that way you could encourage people learning even if they're retired.

When I think about Tourism, apart from languages, I'd love to study abroad to learn more about accesible and inclusive tourism. There are countries in the region, like Ecuador, where you can find really nice and interesting tours and they're designed for everybody. So, it doesn't matter if you're blind, can' walk fast, use a wheelchair or if you're old or have 3 little kids.

Blog Session 4 ::: Instructions

Dear Class,

Today we have to think about the future in terms of studies. I know it's not always easy to think about what will happen after you graduate but remember it'll be only hypothetical ideas.
If you don't feel like writing about the future, please consider what other career you had chosen if you weren't studying what you are now.

For today's post, please include:

a) Reasons to do the course
b) Subject(s) you would like to study
c) Where you would like to study (Chile or abroad)
d) How you would like to study (distance learning, blended system, part-time course, etc.)
e) Any other relevant ideas

You need 200 words minimum and please don't forget to make comments on at least 3 of your classmates' posts + a comment on my post.

Best,

Belén
